Derek's Websites and More

Website Design and Development Prices

This list was last updated on April 29, 2022. Prices are in United States dollars (USD), do not include current sales tax, and are subject to change without notice.

Important Notes:

  1. You must buy (register) a domain name yourself. It's as valuable as a deed to a house or a title to a vehicle. The price varies, and domain registration is annual. Most of the time, you can pay for more than one year. I can help you decide on a good domain and acquire the best price.

  2. I highly recommend buying domain privacy. It's well worth the extra cost to protect your name, street address, email address, and phone number. Without privacy, you could receive a lot of junk mail, spam emails, and scam phone calls.

  3. I can also help you choose a website hosting provider. You must purchase it, however. It's where your website will "live" or be "parked," like a car in a garage.

  4. A website host is the foundation of a website and the home of its online presence. It's important to choose the right one, but it can be a difficult decision when there are many options. Learn more and see my list of recommended hosting providers.

  5. Use an SSL certificate, which is a security certificate for "https" in your website's address (URL). It's important for many reasons, including a ranking factor in major search engines. Most hosting providers offer a free SSL in their plans.

  6. I like WordPress websites because, like cars, you can park them almost anywhere. If you want to move your website to a different hosting provider for whatever reason (faster servers, better security), you can. You can not do it with a website on Wix, Square, Shopify, Squarespace, and a few more.

  7. Your average business only needs a few web pages: Home, Products or Services, Portfolio, About, and Contact.

  8. An FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) page can be very useful to you and your customers. Save yourself time by avoiding answering repetitive questions over the phone or in emails, and give your customers the information that they want at the same time.

  9. A blog page can also be helpful to some businesses. Blog articles can increase your SEO rank and domain authority. They can also inform your target customers of your product or service and convince them to buy.

  10. All my websites are tested for compatibility on all major web browsers (Google Chrome, Apple Safari, Microsoft Edge, and Mozilla Firefox) on most screen sizes. However, certain website features, such as a button, will not look the same on each browser. I cannot control this, but I will try.

  11. I highly recommend buying a website maintenance and care plan, whether it's from me or somebody else. I like to compare it to car insurance. If you do not have it before you need it, you will regret it. If your website is hacked or plugins and themes malfunction because they were not updated, your online business will be affected.

  12. You must buy at least part of the Legal Protection package for any website option unless you sign a waiver. See details.

Recommended Website Hosting Providers

I recommend avoiding hosting providers with slow server speed, poor performance, poor reliability, poor security, and poor customer support. The shortlist includes Bluehost, HostGator, and GoDaddy. Read the long list.

I use SiteGround for many reasons. Their servers are fast, secure, and reliable. I've been with them for more than 3 years, so I'm very familiar with their system and tools. Because of that, my website maintenance skills are honed, and my work is fast. If you want to host your site with them, you can save money on their hosting plans by using this special discount.

SG Site Scanner (one of their many great tools)

The SG Site Scanner is a malware detection and early warning system that enables you to perform on-demand scans of your website and performs comprehensive daily scans to detect domain blacklisting and malware. The malware database is constantly updated, enabling the SG Site Scanner to detect even the latest threats.

Price: $18 yearly

Other great (and free) SG WordPress tools: SG Optimizer plugin, SG Security plugin

Other Good WordPress Website Hosting Providers:

Note: SiteGround and these hosts below are great for WordPress websites. I do not know much about their ability to handle other types of websites. You will have to search online or consult me to help you search.
